Chondral Injury Clues on MRI

Chondral injuries, which often occur in soccer and other cutting and turning activities, can be difficult to diagnose. Pain is often diffuse, and patients' recollection of when the pain began is typically vague.

Though magnetic resonance imaging findings may be subtle, look for unexplained effusion, which occurs in about 75% of chondral injuries. Subchondral bone changes may also be present.
